Piling works at Ailes Marines
' Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm have been put on pause following a technical problem encountered during the second series of boreholes. This technical problem resulted in the leaking of Panolin HLP SYNTH hydraulic fluid used in the guide systems of the drill rigs.

The fluid, specially designed and developed for work at sea, is biodegradable according to the international criteria of the OECD 301B. It is used for underwater applications, for work at sea, due to its reduced impact on the environment.

Ailes Marines stated that in accordance with its procedures, work was immediately halted pending the technical inspection of the drilling equipment by the authorities. Once this inspection is completed, the vessel
Aeolus will return to its home port in order to carry out a complete technical check of the vessel and the tools.

The 496 MW
Saint-Brieuc wind farm, 16 km off the French coast, will feature 62 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, standing at 207 metres high. It is being developed by Ailes Marines, subsidiary of Spanish energy giant Iberdrola. Covering an area of 75km2 the project will be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany and, when operational in 2023, it will be capable of generating 1,820 GWh/year of electricity, expected to meet the demands of  835,000 people.
