Fugro secures offshore wind work on the US East Coast

Fugro has signed a letter of intent to perform a site characterisation programme for an offshore wind development on the US East Coast.

Fieldwork will begin in the second quarter of 2023 and involves collection of geophysical and geotechnical datasets. Supporting site planning and engineering design, the developing ground model will be made available to project owners in near real-time to facilitate faster decision-making by project engineers and improved collaboration with stakeholders, including regulatory agencies.

The programme is focused on accelerating the construction and operations permitting process and represents Fugro’s latest work on the US East Coast.

Fugro announced back in November that Community Offshore Wind, a joint venture between RWE Renewables and National Grid, has awarded Fugro an offshore survey contract to support site appraisal and concept design activities in the New York Bight, also off the US East Coast. Survey work commenced last year with the majority being executed in 2023, detailing geophysical and environmental conditions within the 510 km2 lease area.

Fugro is a Geo-data specialist, collecting and analysing information about the Earth and the structures built upon it. It has a track record of supporting offshore wind projects in Europe.

Last month The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) awarded a contracted Fugro for mapping of the shallowest strata under the seabed at the Sørlige Nordsjø II wind farm site. The objective is to locate sites that are best suited for placement of wind turbines.
