Continuing its relationship with Ørsted, Fugro was awarded a contract for the  South Fork offshore wind farm off Rhode Island in the US earlier this year. The contract was announced as part of Fugro’s Q1 2021 Trading Update.

Under this contract, Fugro will perform an unexploded ordnance (UXO) investigation. The company has previously performed specialized surveys for Ørsted’s
Bay State Wind and Ocean Wind projects.

Back in January, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management published a draft environmental impact analysis for South Fork, which will be one of the US’s first offshore wind farms. It will consist of up to 15 wind turbines, each up to 12 MW in capacity. Developed by Ørsted and Eversource, it will deliver power to households under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Long Island Power Authority.

Fugro’s update also referred to a previously unannounced contract in South Korea, where the company will undertake site characterisation for a floating offshore wind farm.
