Fugro to survey Dublin Array

Fugro GB Marine Limited has been contracted for geophysical surveys at the Dublin Array project, to characterise the offshore array and export cable search area, including exploring possible landfall options at Shanganagh Park and Poolbeg.

Operations across a total of four vessels are expected to begin next Tuesday 9 February and continue until Tuesday 11 May. The work includes geophysical surveys to characterise the Dublin Array offshore array and export cable search area, the latter which provide options for export cables routes to possible landfall options in the area of Shanganah Park and Poolbeg.

The Dublin Array is a project on the Kish and Bray banks, approximately 10 km off the east coast of Ireland, immediately south of Dublin. These are naturally occurring sandbanks which the east coast commercial shipping routes avoid due to the shallowness of the water, thereby presenting a location for potential development.

The project is a joint venture between RWE Renewables Ireland and Saorgus Energy, with RWE leading the development. Proximity to Dublin, which is the major electricity demand centre, means that the project can be a source of renewable electricity for the city and the surrounding region. The 1 GW project will be located within an area of 54 km2 in water depths ranging from 2-30 metres.
