Geophysical and Geotechnical survey tenders announced by Tennet

Geophysical and Geotechnical survey tenders have just been announced in preparation of building Tennets new offshore grid connections.

The objective is the execution of geophysical and geotechnical soil investigations in order to obtain subsoil information at the three proposed platform locations of BalWin1, 2 and 3, in order to progress the design and installation requirements for the offshore converter station.


Balwin1 sits between designated project zones N-9.1 and N-9.2, Balwin2 sits between designated project zones N-9.3 and N-9.4 and Balwin 3 sits between designated project zones N-10.1 and N-10.2.  Each of these zones are expected to be capable of generating 1000MW using a new 2 GW offshore grid connections, setting a new standard for connecting offshore wind farms to the onshore grid.

Balwin1 is anticipated ready for commissioning on 1st January 2029,  Balwin2 is anticpated ready for commissioning on 1st January 2030 and Balwin3 ready for commissioning by 1st July 2030.
The Survey campaign is anticipated to commence on 27th October this year (2021), and finish the end of February 2022.
