Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind has unveiled its first 8 MW turbine. A nacelle of its new GW175-8.0MW unit was showcased at a ceremony held at the Goldwind Technology Fujian Equipment manufacturing Base of the Three Gorges Offshore Wind Power International Industrial Park in Fujian.

Goldwind one of the largest wind turbine manufacturers in China in terms of installed capacity and claims to have installed more than 32,000 units worldwide.

Following the testing and certification of its turbine, Goldwind will carry out a two-month drag test of the unit at the Jinfeng Science and Technology Fujian test bench. It is then to be deployed on the second phase of the
Xinghua Bay project at the end of 2019. The new turbine features an overdrive mode which allows for the turbine to operate ay 8.5 MW when the ambient temperature is lower 8.5 MW.

This is the third turbine model over 8 MW in China. Back in August, Shanghai Electric unveiled its 8 MW unit, and Dongfang Electric announced its 10 MW model.

Shanghai electrics turbine is the result of a contract with Siemens Gamesa, to license the
SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine, was signed back in March 2018. Under the agreement, Shanhai Electric will manufacture, sell, and install the turbines at offshore wind projects in mainland China's territorial waters.

Dongfang Electric's turbine is the largest in the country in terms of rotor diameter and unit capacity. Its design is based on the working conditions in Chinese waters, permanent magnet direct drive and full power conversion technologies were used to achieve active typhoon-resistant performance. The turbine is also to be installed at an offshore wind farm in
Xinghua Bay, east China's Fujian Province.
