Ørsted announced that the final foundation for the
Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farm has been installed off the coast of Taiwan. A total of 111 jackets and 333 pin piles have been installed at the site.
Installation was completed using Heerema Marine Contractors' heavy lift crane vessel Aegir. The vessel was also used in the installation of the offshore substation foundations. Work took place in waters ranging between 30 and 35 metres.
Greater Changhua 1 and 2a are located between 35 and 60 kilometres off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan, and are being developed by Ørsted on behalf of project partners. They will consist of 111 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-67 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW. The wind farms will have a combined capacity of approximately 900 MW, which is expected to be enough to supply around 1 million Taiwanese households with green power.
Turbine installation is underway and Ørsted expects to commission the last unit in 2023.
