GSS signs Taiwanese MoU

GSS has signed an MoU for the supply of marine support services in Taiwan.

GSS, the European headquartered marine services company is forming a joint venture with one of Taiwan’s most respected and largest marine construction companies.

The joint venture with Hwa Chi Construction Co. Ltd, GSS Hwa Chi offshore services, enables both companies to provide a full set of marine support services and marine construction services to the Taiwanese offshore wind industry and indeed the marine construction and dredging industries.

GSS has been active in offshore wind support services for many years now and has adapted the offering to the market needs. Within the last 12 months GSS commissioned the Ella F a DP2 vessel with a working draft of 1.5m.

Hwa Chi Construction Co, founded in 1987 by chairman Ching – Liang Tsai has grown into one of Taiwan’s largest marine construction companies.

Owners and operators of a range of larger floating plant, including jack ups and hopper dredger Hwa Chi Construction is technically well placed to support the growing industry.

Jamie McGarry, Group MD, of GSS commented "that the establishment of the joint venture with our partners is another step in the strategic growth of GSS. The new JV company in Taiwan provides GSS with a springboard into further countries within the Asia Region."

The renewable market and marine construction market within Taiwan is experiencing double digit growth, renewable being a key strategy for the Taiwanese government.

"We are already receiving significant enquiries for our services from our longstanding clients for works and support in Taiwan, commented MD of GSS BV Jan Peute. It is important that we provide these services with strong in-country support and Hwa Ch Construction Co allows GSS to do that." He continued.

The joint venture partnership will align GSS’ offshore expertise with Hwa Chi Construction offshore and in-country expertise. This will allow GSS Hwa Chi offshore services to develop the skills within the country using local knowledge and local content to provide the required services to the developers of large projects.
