Thailand headquartered power company Gulf Energy Development has completed its acquisition of a 50% stake in the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm located off the coast of Germany. The purchase of the stake from Global Infrastructure Partners was valued in the region of €558 million, and was first announced in July 2020.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is located 57 km off the coast of Lower Saxony, and has an export capacity of 450 MW, powering around 460,000 German households annually. The remaining interest will be retained by Ørsted, which developed the project.

The operation of the wind turbines is being managed by Ørsted's operations management centre in Norden-Norddeich. This is the first German offshore wind farm to feature MHI Vestas 8 MW (
V164-8.0 MW)  turbines and suction bucket jacket foundations.
