Global Wind Service (GWS) has finished work on the last turbine at Trianel Windpark Borkum II, which is now ready for final commissioning.

The project faced some unforeseen challenges when Senvion went into insolvency and the project was delayed. This meant installation and completion works during the autumn and winter, in tough weather conditions.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March added a whole new dimension to the project. It continued, without any additional delays, with the company's back-office working to keep progress and secure a safe working environment and transportation of technicians in the field.

“In the 23 years I have worked in the wind industry, I have never experienced anything like this. We have all been dealing with issues we never could have imagined, as the world suddenly changed overnight. The team has worked day and night to adjust to ever changing guidelines from the European countries – and I must say that I am truly proud of everybody involved”,
said Jokum Bendstrup, Senior Project Manager at Global Wind Service.

“It is no secret that it has been challenging at times, but I would like to thank everybody involved in the project – both my colleagues from GWS and our partners from Jan De Nul and  Trianel”,
said Lars Petersen, Chief Commercial Officer at Global Wind Service.

Jan De Nul Group awarded Global Wind Service (GWS) the installation and completion scope for the 32 Senvion 6.2M152 PU turbines, each with a capacity of 6.33 MW. Various teams have been working in parallel, both erecting the turbines and performing the electrical and mechanical completion.
