GWS to support East Anglia array

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has contracted wind turbine installation and service company Global Wind Service (GWS) to assemble all towers for East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm in the UK.

The towers will be assembled at the Norfolk port of Great Yarmouth ahead of load-out and installation offshore, as part of the wind farm construction. Work will be conducted from GWS’s office in Lowestoft.

The pre-assembly work for the SWT-7.0-154 direct-drive turbines is scheduled to commence at site in mid-March 2019, and to run for a year. For the 66kV high voltage scope, GWS will be drawing on high voltage technicians from its joint venture with Delpro Wind.

A long term project like East Anglia ONE is supporting GWS’ strategy to continue our growth globally and in the UK where it will also create more local jobs, which is great for the UK wind industry.”

The £2.5bn East Anglia ONE wind farm is the first of four projects in the East Anglia region to begin construction. It is being realised solely by ScottishPower Renewables. The 714MW array is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2020 and is expected to meet the energy demands of 500,000 British households annually.
