Hansa Powerbridge Publishes Procurement Details

The German and Swedish TSOs, 50hertz and Svenska kraftnät have released Request for Information (RFI) for the submarine cables and converter stations of the Hansa Powerbridge project.

The 300 km long cable route includes: 175 km HVDC submarine cable, 70 km DC underground cable (landfall to converter station) and 2 km underground AC cable (converter station to substation) on Germany side, and 60 km DC underground cable on Sweden side. The two converter stations will be located at Lüssow and Hurva, in Germany and Sweden respectively.


The main technical data of the
project comprises, two 700 MW submarine cable, having a symmetrical monopole configuration, with a DC voltage of +/- 300 kV and AC voltage of 400 kV.

The two submarine cables and one fibre optic cable will be bundled before laying. Post laying, the bundle will be protected by burial or a rock berm. The maximum depth for the submarine cable will be ~50 meters. The 72 km underground cable in Germany will be installed in preinstalled ducts (ducts not in scope), while 60 km underground cable in Sweden will be directly buried. All the cables will be having an XLPE insulation.

Pre-qualification process scheduled from mid-December 2021 to the end of February 2022.

Tenders expected in mid-June 2022.

Negotiation rounds expected to last until mid-November 2022 (last day for submitting a bid).

Contract signing anticipated in the Q3 2023.
-        
Cable construction work to complete by Q3 2026 and final testing will be carried out immediately after that.
-        
Converter construction work (including the design phase, delivery and mobilization, assembly and installation) is scheduled to complete in Q3 2026.
-        
Commissioning scheduled for Q4 2026.
