Horns Rev stands tall

Just a few days after the first TP was installed the first wind turbine for the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm has been installed. This task was planned and excuted by Fred. Olsen's jack-up vessel, Brave Tern. This installation comes soon after the transition piece was installed. Earlier this week the first 2 TP’s were installed by GEOSEA using the Jan De Nul’s jack up vessel, Vole au Vent.

"We are pleased to have started installing the turbines at Denmark's next offshore wind farm. Horns Rev 3 is a significant step towards a fossil free future for both Vattenfall and Denmark. The construction of the wind farm is a large operation that involves many ships and different jobs. We are very careful about the safety of the staff, and I'm happy that the work is progressing well," says Martin Zappe, Project Director at Horns Rev 3.

The turbine installation activities are all taking place at the base of operations in the Port of Esjberg. The week before, Danish marine contractor Peter Madsen Rederi A/S (PMR) completed another stone bed installation job for jack-up installation vessels. The new set of stone beds were constructed in the port of Esbjerg in Denmark and completed ahead of schedule.

The project will feature 49 V164-8.0 MW turbines in total. When complete, expected 2020, the 406.7MW Horns Rev 3 project is expected to be capable of providing enough power to satisfy the annual electricity consumption of 425,000 Danish households.
