Huadian installs Binhai South H3 topside

Huadian Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Huadian) has announced that the offshore substation topside for the Binhai South H3 300 MW offshore wind farm in China has been installed. The topside will transmit energy generated by the turbine array ashore for integration into the national grid.

Huadian was tasked with the transportation and installation of the topside at the jacket foundation, forming the substation. Atkins supported PowerChina Huadong Engineering Co. Ltd with the engineering and design of the substation.

The project is under construction in the Yellow Sea, roughly 36 km of the coast of Binhai, located within the Chinese province of Jiangsu. It is to consist of 75 Siemens Gamesa SWT-4.0-130 turbines, each with a 4 MW capacity. The turbines will be mounted on monopile foundations in water depths up to 18m and covering an area of 90km. The project is being developed by State Power Investment Corporation which is expected to be producing power by the end of the year.
