Ailes Marines has awarded a joint venture between Iemants (a subsidiary of Smulders) and ENGIE Solutions the contract to construct an offshore substation for the Saint Brieuc offshore wind farm.

The scope of work for the joint venture Iemants – ENGIE Solutions consists of the engineering, construction, installation, connection and testing of the offshore substation. The
Saint-Brieuc offshore substation consists of a 63-meter-high jacket of 1,630 T and 315 T piles and a topside weighing approx. 3,400 T. The topside is 55 metres long, 31 metres wide and 23 metres high.

Iemants is responsible for the engineering and construction of the steel structures for both the topside and jacket. All works will be performed at the Smulders’ production facilities in Belgium and Poland. The topside will be transferred to the ENGIE Solutions yard in Hoboken for final assembly. Assembly works of the jacket will take place at Smulders' yard in Vlissingen (the Netherlands).

ENGIE Solutions in Belgium is responsible for the engineering, procurement, integration, construction and testing (on- and offshore) of all LV, MV, HV and auxiliary systems for the jacket and topside of the Saint Brieuc offshore substation. The engineering, procurement, construction, integration and onshore testing for the topside systems will take place at the ENGIE Solutions yard in Hoboken (Belgium). For the jacket, these activities will take place in Vlissingen.

Engineering and construction works have already been started for the topside and jacket. Sail away of the topside and jacket is scheduled for the spring/summer of 2022.

The
Saint-Brieuc wind farm is located 16.3 kilometres off Brittany. Once completed, the wind farm, with a total capacity of 496 MW, will produce 1,820 GWh annually, expected to meet the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants. The installation works will last several months, and will continue until 2022. The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in 2023.
