India plans to bid out 12 GW of offshore wind by 2025

India has unveiled new plans to tender out large volumes of offshore wind. The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is expected to open the first offshore wind tender, for up to 4 GW of capacity, this year.

The tender timeline was decided after a detailed review of  transmission and infrastructure required to achieve a 10 GW build out off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

There are plans for 4 GW tenders every year until 2025, and then 5 GW tenders every year up to FY2029-30.
