Jacket installation completed at Greater Changhua 2a

Heerema Marine Contractors has revealed that jacket installation for the Greater Changhua 2a wind farm is complete. The company's heavy lift vessel Aegir has been supporting foundations works at both Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms off the coast of Taiwan.

Greater Changhua 1 and 2a are located between 35 and 60 kilometres off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan, and are being developed by Ørsted on behalf of project partners. They will consist of 111 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-67 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW. The wind farms will have a combined capacity of approximately 900 MW, which is expected to be enough to supply around 1 million Taiwanese households with green power. Wind turbine installation is underway with the project expected to come online in 2022.

Ørsted completed the energisation of the 900 MW onshore substations for the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a earlier this month. Energization of the two onshore substations, located in Changhua Coastal Park, Tawian, was delivered via a close collaboration between Ørsted and Star Energy Corporation (SEC), a 100% subsidiary of Taiwan Cogeneration Corporation.

Ørsted also recently held a ceremony at the Port of Taichung with Taiwanese vessel company Ta San Shang Marine Co. Ltd. to christen and name the first-ever purpose-built Service Operation Vessel (SOV) TSS Pioneer in the Asia-Pacific region.
