Jumbo contract win at Hornsea Two

DEME Offshore has awarded a contract for Ørsted’s Hornsea Two offshore windfarm to Jumbo Shipping. Jumbo’s scope of work includes providing and transporting 165 monopile foundations from Rostock to Eemshaven and 135 transition pieces from Aalborg to Eemshaven, using a K3000 class vessel.

The company will also act as project manager for the transport scope – this includes engineering and designing both transportation and cradles. Jumbo will begin transporting monopiles and transition pieces in August 2020.

Jumbo states that it was awarded the contract because of its Jumbo K3000 vessels’ intake lifting capacity. The vessels offer 3,250m² free deck space, making them suitable to transport large equipment such as these foundations. It also offers 3,000t lifting capacity via dual 1,500t cranes. Prior to this award, Jumbo has worked on the Burbo Bank Extension in the Irish Sea and the Yunlin project off Taiwan.

Jumbo’s Commercial Manager (Renewables), Boudewijn van der Garden, stated: “We are very pleased to be working alongside DEME Offshore on the Hornsea Two project. This contract is an affirmation of our previous work in the offshore wind industry. Our scope here once again demonstrates the suitability of the K3000 Class in supporting the development of sustainable energy projects such as this.”

Once built, Ørsted’s 1.4 GW Hornsea Two will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world. It will be capable of providing clean energy to over 1.3 million homes.
