On 30 Nov 2022, the first Service Operations Vessels (SOVs) for wind farms in China had their keel laying ceremony at the ZPMC yard. It follows their steel cutting on 15 September 2022.

The two vessels, of the ULSTEIN SX195 and SX197 designs, were ordered by Shanghai Electric with scheduled delivery time end of 2023 and early 2024 respectively. Both vessel's will feature ULSTEIN’s the X-BOW and the X-STERN.

Accommodating 60 POB and 100 POB respectively, these vessels are designed to allow Shanghai Electric to provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services to end customers. With batteries installed, the vessels are aimed to provide a greener footprint when servicing the renewable energy segment.

According to Ulstein, much consideration has been taken in order to provide technicians with safe and stepless access from the vessel to the wind turbines and ensure sufficient storage and well-organized logistics onboard the vessels.
