LS Cable & System selected for 400 MW Korean offshore wind project

LS Cable & System has been selected as the preferred bidder for the supply of submarine cables for the 400 MW Shinanwui offshore wind project in South Korea.

The Shinanwui offshore wind project is located in the south-eastern sea area of Ui-do, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. The project is large scale in South Korea; with the capacity of Shinanwui being more than three times the cumulative 124 MW of installed capacity of offshore wind power in the country in 2022.

In the second half of 2025, LS Cable & System will supply all necessary submarine cables for the construction of Shinanwui and the connection of the cables to land. The contract is expected to reach 100 billion won.

LS Cable & System and project developer, Hanwha Corporation/E&C, plan to begin contract negotiations on product specifications immediately, with the goal of completion on Shinanwui in 2026. Starting with this project, LS Cable & System and Hanwha Corporation/E&C are aiming to strengthen cooperation in domestic offshore wind power projects.

An official from LS Cable & System commented that overseas companies are targeting taking over the offshore wind power market, making it significant to protect the domestic industrial ecosystem.

LS Cable & System is strengthening its submarine cable business by expanding investment and developing the world's best 525 kV class HVDC cable. The Company is also completing the construction of a factory specialising in the production of HVDC cables.

There is a total of 20 GW of offshore wind projects that have been approved for power generation business in South Korea. The industry estimates the total business scale to be over 100 trillion won.
