MENCK to support Boskalis with work on Taiwanese duo

Acteon announced that its specialist pile-driving operating company, MENCK, has been awarded a contract to support Boskalis with the foundation piling activities on the Taiwanese
ChangFang and Xidao offshore wind project.

MENCK will be providing a piling hammer spread including two 1200 KJ hammers with associated powerpacks and winches. It will support the piling of 186 pin piles for the 62 three-legged jacket foundations being installed over two campaigns in 2021 and 2022 in water depths of up to 40m.

LJ Pan, Taiwan country manager at Acteon says “Providing services on this project is a significant achievement within the Taiwanese region where we are continuously increasing our presence through equipment development, strategic partnerships and deployment of localised personnel. Our track-record is growing and is enhanced by Acteon’s partnership with DWTEK in Taiwan. DWTEK will assist us with local suppliers, importation/customs and personnel work permits and Visas.”

The
ChangFang and Xidao project is expected to start commercial operations in Q1 2024. Engineering and pre-construction works are underway and the project is scheduled to be constructed in the period 2021-2023. It will consist of 62 MHI Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbines. Financial close was reached in February 2020.

The
ChangFang and Xidao project obtained grid allocation in 2018. It is owned by CIP, Taiwan Life Insurance Co., Ltd and TransGlobe Life.In 2019, the project entered into a 20-year PPA with the state-owned Taiwan Power Company. The project is expected to start commercial operations in Q1 2024.
