Mingyang Smart Energy unveils 12 MW typhoon-resistant turbine

Mingyang Smart Energy (Mingyang)has announced the rollout of its MySE 12MW hybrid drive offshore wind turbine at its manufacturing base in Shanwei, Guangdong.

According to Mingyang, the MySE 12MW is an upgrade of the 11MW platform that integrates a variety of innovative technologies. The turbine's lubrication system is optimised and co-shared by the gearbox and generator. It also features dual-drive pitch control technology which Mingyang claims is suitable all kinds of extreme operation conditions.

Furthermore, it features a multi-sensor wind measuring system designed to enable intelligent and precise yaw control, lowering unit load and improving power output. The new unit unit also uses a multi-source data system which supports system failure forecast. The MySE 12MW model is certified by the China General Certification Centre (CGC).

MySE 12MW is designed to withstand super typhoons of 78.82 m/s and is applicable to over 98% of China's sea areas, including Fujian and Guangdong provinces, as well as overseas markets such as Europe. The use of single-blade lifting technology and processing raises the operating wind speed limit from less than 10m/s to 15m/s, improving construction efficiency by more than 30%.

Mingyang claims that, at underrated wind speeds, MySE 12MW can generate 25 kWh of electricity in a single spin and 45 million kWh of electricity per year, enough to cover the annual electricity demand of 23,000 families while saving 15,000 tons of coal and 38,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
