Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) has selected Navantia S.A., S.M.E. (Navantia) and the facilities of Navantia Shiprepairs Ferrol Estuary for the update and upgrade of its
Brave Tern jack-up vessel. The purpose of this project is to increase its current capacity for offshore wind installation.

The mutli-phase project will see material procurement, engineering development and prefabrication in 2023 with a second phase of work to take place on board after the vessel’s arrival at the yard in the period late 2023 and early 2024.

The vessel is expected to stay at the yard for about seven months, with around half of that time in drydock. It will take place in the yard facilities in FENE and FERROL.

The project is estimated to take around 500,000 working hours with FOWIC and Navantia already working together in the early preparation tasks.

FOWIC is an offshore wind turbine installation company with ownership in three purpose-built transportation and installation jack-up vessels, It is currently executing a new crane upgrade program for its existing three vessels,
Brave Tern, Bold Tern and Blue Tern and will, when completed in 2024/25 will enable them to install 13-15 MW turbines coming to the market in 2024/25.
