New entrant to Chinese subsea cable supply

AVIC Bao Sheng Marine Engineering Cable Co., Ltd. 中航宝胜海洋工程电缆有限公司 , has won the tender for the supply of 81km 220kV export cables and auxiliary equipment for the 300MW Huaneng Shandong Peninsula South 4 offshore wind farm, marking its entry into the Chinese offshore wind market.

To date the four main suppliers of 220kV submarine cables for offshore wind in China are ZTT, Qingdao Hanhe Cable, Orient Cable, and Hengtong Optic.

According to 4C Offshore market share analysis earlier this year, ZTT has the highest market share, 33%, for supply of 132-220 kV cable supply, followed by Orient Cable (32%), Hengtong Optic (22%) and Qingdao Hanhe Cable (13%).

The Huaneng Shandong Peninsula South 4 project site is about 29-32km offshore and the water depth is about 29m-31m. Start of construction is anticipated in June 2020 with commissioning in September 2021.

Two 220kV submarine cables of 40.5 km each will run between an offshore substation and the cable landing point. AVIC Bao Sheng Marine Engineering Cable Co., Ltd will deliver the first batch of cables in January 2021 and the second in March 2021. The contract is valued at 318.407492 million yuan.
