Niels Winther Maritime has been commissioned by Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects B.V. to support them as agent for its installation vessel Aeolus in Esbjerg over the summer.

Niels Winther Maritime previously supported Van Oord on the
Gemini project in 2016. The vessel is scheduled to make multiple port calls for loading wind turbine components for the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm, owned by Canadian power producer Northland Power Inc.

Northland Power is the 100% owner of the
Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project, which is located in the North Sea, more than 100 kilometres from the mainland in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. The company recently confirmed that assembly of the MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW turbines is underway in the Port of Esbjerg with load-out to start shortly.

Consisting of 33 wind turbines of 8 MW each, the wind farm is due to be fully operational by the end of 2019. It is expected produce a total capacity of 269 MW, which is enough to provide more than 178,000 households with renewable energy per year. This translates to a CO2 emissions reduction of more than 328,000 tonnes per year, which is in line with German government targets to produce 40% less CO2 in 2020 than in the baseline year, 1990.
