NYK and Akita Eisen KK have agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a crew transfer vessel (CTV) operations related to offshore wind projects, mainly in the waters off the Akita prefecture in Japan.

NYK Group will consider the commercialisation of CTV ownership and ship management by utilising the knowledge of CTVs gained through the group’s collaboration with the Northern Offshore Group in Sweden. In addition,  Akita Eisen will contribute with its knowledge and network following 30 years of experience in ship operation and the training of seafarers in Akita.

The Japanese government has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050. In particular, offshore wind power generation is one of the areas where market expansion is most expected, with the aim of installing stations capable of producing 30–45 million kilowatts by 2040 as an important source of future electricity.
