Nexans High Voltage USA Inc, the first US-based high voltage subsea export cable fabricators, has completed its inaugural cable load-out operations at its facility in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

As part of a larger European offshore wind development project, Offshore Construction Associates (OCA) has been providing third-party oversight of Nexans’ cable manufacturing and load-out operations.

Nexans' new factory has 475,000 square feet (~44128 square metres) of space, with 210 employees, and manufacturing DC and AC cables, ranging between 245 kV, 400 kV, 420 kV and 525 kV. The company believes that the newly extended cable factory will support the rapidly expanding US offshore wind market.

Nexans has secured contracts for the
Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind offshore wind projects, joint ventures between Ørsted and Eversource. They will be Nexans’ first cable installation projects in the US as part of the frame agreement with Ørsted-Eversource. The Export Cable Framework Agreement, providing the opportunity to supply up to 1,000km of high voltage subsea cables in the US by 2027, was signed in December 2019 between Orsted Wind Power North America LLC and Nexans.

The HVAC cables will be manufactured at Nexans’ new subsea high voltage plant in Charleston, South Carolina.
