VattenfallVattenfall Wind Power Ltd (Vattenfall) has contracted Offshore Wind Consultants Limited (OWC) to provide leg penetration and pile driveability analyses for its development projects.

OWC's scope will be to provide technical support for leg penetration analyses and pile drivability studies for various jack-up vessels and pile geometries. The contract value for OWC's services is of an undisclosed amount.

“Optimising foundation structures for offshore wind developers is at the core of our business. We have earlier supported Vattenfall at both Horns Rev 3 and also at Kentish Flats Extension, therefore we believe that our performance on those developments has helped us land this latest work. Vattenfall is a highly experienced developer of offshore wind power, so we have to constantly improve to deliver on their high expectations,”
says Will Cleverly, OWC’s projects director.

Based on the leg penetration predictions and the soil conditions, the company will either undertake extraction analyses or scour studies to further understand relevant risks. OWC also has access and use of a database of previous loading and penetrations to refer to in order to help it with its analyses.

Earlier this month, Vattenfall's
Aberdeen Offshore wind farm began installation of its MHI Vestas turbines. The wind farm consists of two V164-8.8 MW turbines and nine V164-8.4 MW turbines and has a total capacity of 93.2MW.
