PGE Group has agreed grid connection conditions for its 896 MW Baltica 1 offshore wind farm with state owned transmission system operator PSE.

The technical connection conditions determined include connection capacity, investments in the development of transmission infrastructure on the part of PGE and PSE, and the necessary scope of agreeing these investments with the President of the Energy Regulatory Office.

The
Baltica 1 offshore wind farm is the third concession area currently owned by PGE and is located about 80 km from the shore. It is expected to commercially operational after 2030. In addition to the technical conditions of connection to the transmission network, Baltica 1 has already issued a location permit - permission to erect artificial islands, designating the area for locating a wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea area.

PGE is working on a project plan, detailing the schedule and budget assumptions, which will allow it to move on to the next step - signing the connection agreement with PSE. It will then conduct environmental tests and apply for a decision on environmental conditions.

PGE is developing three offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea:
Baltica 1, Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, with a combined potential capacity of 3.5 GW.

Baltica 2 has a capacity up to 1,498 MW and agreed conditions for connection to the National Power System issued in January 2019. It also has secured a location permit. Baltica 3 could have a capacity of up to 1,045 MW, with PGE having signed a connection agreement signed with PSE.

In January 2020, the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in GdaƄsk issued a decision on environmental conditions for
Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, with a total capacity of up to 2500 MW. Wind resource research completed in February 2020 allowed for the collection of high-quality data confirming the appropriate wind conditions for the sites. The next stages of work for PGE is to obtain a building permit for the construction of Baltica 2 and Baltica 3. To do this, it will conduct seabed research and conceptual work on power output, and connecting farms at sea with the mainland.
