Power outages have been reported in two unrelated subsea electricity interconnectors, Nordlink and Konti-Skan 1. The 380 MW Konti-Skan 1 is out of operation due to a cable failure on Swedish mainland, occurred on 15 February 2021. The reason for the failure is still unknown and is being investigated. The link will likely remain non-operational until 24 March 2021.

The 285 kV HVDC
Konti-Skan 1 connects the electricity systems of Sweden and Denmark. The 150 km long link includes a 87 km long submarine part. The previous 250 MW cable was replaced with a new 380 MW cable in 2014.

Meanwhile, the 1.4 GW
Nordlink tripped twice in four days, on 13 and 16 February 2021, due to errors with onshore facilities in Germany and Norway respectively. Nordlink is a 525 kV HVDC interconnector between Germany and Norway. Previously, the 623 km link tripped during trial operations, in September 2020. Currently, the link is undergoing trial operations and full commissioning is scheduled for Q2 2021.
