The announcement of winners of the Rhode Island 2018 Request for Proposals for 200-400MW of Renewable Energy (RFP), has been delayed until next month. The RFP results were due to be announced in early May but have been delayed until 14th June. The deadline for the negotiation and execution of contracts will now follow on 10th September, with final submission for PUC approval by 12th October.

The RFP closed at the end of October 2018 and bids included 18 solar, three onshore wind and two offshore offers apiece from Vineyard Wind (Avagrid, CIP) and Deepwater Wind (now Ørsted).

Deepwater Wind submitted a 100MW expansion proposal for the 600MW
Revolution Wind project, which will enter construction in 2022. It is part of the Deepwater Wind portfolio, which Ørsted acquired in October 2018. It is located in federal waters roughly halfway between Montauk, N.Y., and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Deepwater Wind also submitted a proposal for a new 350MW project, dubbed Independent Wind, with the aim of starting foundation installation in 2023.

Vineyard Wind also submitted two proposals for the 350MW Vineyard Wind Rhode Island and 200MW Vineyard Wind Rhode Island projects, located in BOEM Lease Area OCS-A 0501.

Earlier this week
Vineyard Wind awarded a contract worth approximately €200 million to Prysmian Group to provide a submarine power cable system which will deliver clean energy to the mainland power grid in the US. The submarine cables will be produced in Prysmian Group’s facilities in Pikkala (Finland) and Arco Felice (Italy).

This followed news that Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB), an independent state board responsible for review of proposed large energy facilities, has approved petitions filed by Vineyard Wind for construction and operation of electric transmission facilities for the
Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm project.
