SAITEC unveils Basque coast floating project

Saitec Offshore Technologies has unveiled the GEROA (Green Energy Research for Offshore Atlantic) project, a floating offshore wind pilot park located 10 km from the Basque coast, off Bilbao.

The project, backed by ITSAS WIND, SL (SAITEC Group), will use the SATH concrete floating platform technology, developed by SAITEC, to install three 15MW wind turbines, expected to be operational in 2025.

After months of work in the development of the project, zoning, and study of potential impacts and mitigation measures, the project began the environmental impact assessment process last Monday (14 June), presenting the initial project development.

GEROA also means the next natural step as a continuation of the 2 MW DemoSATH prototype project (currently under construction in the Port of Bilbao), whicht will be tested for two years in real marine conditions anchored in the BiMEP test facilities (Biscay Marine Energy Platform).

The SATH Technology floater is based on a twin hull, made of modularly prefabricated and subsequently braced concrete elements. It can align itself around a single point of mooring depending to the wind and wave direction.
