Port OostendeThe A2Sea wind turbine installation vessel Sea Installer arrived at the Port of Ostend on 1st May to carry out its role of transporting the 7MW Siemens turbines for the Rentel offshore wind farm.

Once the vessel docked at the REBO offshore wind terminal, the loading procedure for the turbines began immediately.

With each trip the vessel will transport two towers 87m each, two nacelles each 400 tonnes and six blades having a length of 75m each. A total of 42 turbines will be installed, which means that 21 trips from the port of Ostend to the Rentel wind farm will be provided. The average turnaround time of one trip is about four days.

Recently Rentel NV announced it would be holding an open yard day on the 6th of May, where members of the public can view the construction site of the wind farm for free, the open day allows visitors to do a tour of the construction and see the work that goes into developing an offshore wind farm up close.

The 309MW Rentel wind farm, located 34km from the shore, will comprise of 42 SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The turbines will have monopile foundations, each weighing 1250t and measuring 8m in diameter.
