SSE Renewables seeking consents for two Scottish projects

SSE Renewables is now in the process of seeking consent for the next phase of its Firth of Forth offshore wind farms,
Berwick Bank and Marr Bank (formerly Seagreen 2&3). Combined, these proposed developments could generate up to 4.15 GW of renewable electricity.

RPS has been appointed the lead offshore Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and shadow Habitat Regulation Appraisal (HRA) consultant for the Berwick Bank and Marr Bank offshore wind farm projects.

The company will lead the development of the Berwick Bank and Marr Bank Scoping Reports, EIA Reports, HRA Screening Reports and Report to Inform Appropriate Assessments (RIAAs), to inform the application for consent for both projects. Most of the assessments will be undertaken by in-house and include a range of human, biological and physical environmental topics.

Louise Davis, Berwick Bank and Marr Bank Consent Team Manager, commented: “We are pleased to have RPS on board as lead EIA and HRA consultants. They bring a wealth of experience to this key discipline for the development of the Berwick Bank and Marr Bank projects and we look forward to working with them.”

Emily King, Project Director of the offshore EIA and HRA, commented: “Having provided post consent support services to both Seagreen Alpha and Bravo, it’s really exciting to be leading the EIA and HRA for both Berwick Bank and Marr Bank. We are looking forward to working with SSE Renewables’ development team and in close collaboration with the project’s key stakeholders throughout the pre-application phase for both projects.”

SS Renewables is currently moving forward with the development of its
Seagreen offshore wind farm, a 1,075 MW project located 27 km off the Angus Coast in the Firth of Forth. Once constructed, the wind farm will be the largest in Scotland and Phase One is expected to provide low carbon energy for around one million homes.

In September 2019, Seagreen secured a 15-year CfD contract awarded by the UK. SSE Renewables is leading on the development and construction of the first 1,140 MW phase, supported by Total, and will operate the asset on completion, which is expected in 2022/23. The project will feature 114 MHI Vestas
V164-10 MW turbines.
