Substation reductions at Hornsea Two

By: Matthew White 04/05/2018 Infrastructure Planning
ØrstedØrsted has made an application to change its planned infrastructure for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm.

The Secretary of State, having considered the application and the responses to the publicity and consultation carried out in accordance with regulations 6 and 7 of the Infrastructure Planning Regulations 2011, has decided to make this Order amending the
Hornsea Two Offshore Wind Farm.

The amendments made to the infrastructure are as follows. The maximum number of HVAC substations has been reduced from six to three. This is due to come into effect on the 8th of May.

Included in the amendment is a change to the size of the substations. Rather than being 3600m2 in area or 60m in width, they are now set to nearly double in size and become 6300m2 in area or 90m in width.

These changes could lead to reductions in costs for the company, made through savings on surveys that would need to be performed, and also construction and installation savings.
