Taiya Renewable Energy (TRE), a local offshore wind power developer in Taiwan, revealed it plans to bid for the second phase of wind power zonal development and floating demonstration project in 2023.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs has held a briefing on the floating wind demonstration earlier this week, sharing the relevant rules with wind developers. TRE is inviting domestic and foreign investors to cooperate with them with tender. It has already conducted the work for EIA in preparation for the zonal development.

TRE stated that due to a variety of floating techniques and types at this stage that have never been tested in the persistent ocean currents of Taiwan Strait, it suggests the government to broaden the base of prospective developers. It claims an increased number of developers could explore the adoption of different technologies in Taiwan and prepare for the later localisation efforts.

Back in December, TRE and EDF's
Huan Yang project was named one of the winners of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs first Round Three auction. The developers secured 440 MW for delivery by 2027.

Taiwan is currently aiming to install 5.6 GW of offshore wind by by 2025 with plans to add a further 1.5 GW per year between 2026 and 2035. By 2050 it hopes to reach 40-55 GW.
