Tekmar Energy Limited has announced that international marine contractor Van Oord has selected the patented Tekmar Cable Protection System (CPS) TekLink Mechanical Latch for Windpark Fryslân project.

Tekmar Energy is providing 167 cable protection systems for the infield array cables, providing full protection from topside hang-offs through to burial into the seabed. The product will be produced in Tekmar Energy’s manufacturing facility in the North East of England.

Russell Edmondson, Managing Director of Tekmar Energy said: “We are delighted that Tekmar has been selected for Windpark Fryslân. This continues our trusted relationship with Van Oord and furthers our position as the world market leader in offshore wind cable protection systems.”

Windpark Fryslân reached financial close on 1st October 2019 and is to be built in the Dutch IJsselmeer, six kilometres off the Frisian coast. Windpark Fryslân is set to feature 89 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SWT-DD-130, each with a 4.3 MW capacity.

With a capacity of 382.7 MW, the array is anticipated to supply enough energy for around 500,000 households and be fully operational in 2021. It is being built by Balance of Plant contractors Van Oord. Foundation installation is currently scheduled to start in 2020.
