Trianel Windpark Borkum II fully operational

Exactly two years after construction began, all turbines are now spinning at the Trianel Windpark Borkum II. Each turbine stands roughly 105m tall, with a rated power of 6.15 MW.

Turbine installation was originally expected to be completed last year. However, bad weather during the autumn and winter months, as well as the insolvency of turbine supplier Senvion massively hampered the construction schedule.

Installation of the 32 Senvion 6.2 M152 offshore wind turbines started in August 2019, using Jan De Nul's jack-up installation vessel Tailevent. Back in February, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier was contracted to install the remaining 11 Senvion 6.2M152 turbines on Trianel Windpark Borkum II.

"Despite the unexpectedly big challenge in the construction phase, we were able to successfully complete the municipal offshore project together with our partners, our partners and the special energy of the project team," says Klaus Horstick, Managing Director of Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co. KG.

Trianel Windpark Borkum II covers an area of 33 km² and is located 45 km off the northern coast of Borkum Island, Germany. It will have an overall capacity of 203 MW when commissioned. Companies involved in the project are EWE AG with a share of 37.5% and a joint venture of the power utility of the city of Zurich with 24.51%. The municipal utilities cooperation Trianel, along with 17 municipal utilities from Germany, holds a share of 37.99%.

TWB II is located in the direct vicinity of the 200 MW Trianel Windpark Borkum I project, which consists of 40 turbines and has been in operation since summer 2015.
