Triton Knoll deploys PWS' handwash stations

Bespoke offshore hot water handwash stations to combat covid-19 are being supplied to Triton Knoll offshore wind farm by offshore welfare specialist Pegasus Welfare Solutions (PWS).

PWS designed a new self-contained hot water unit for frequent hand washing in a swift reaction to ‘new normal’ offshore hygiene risks.

The stations - part of PWS’ modular system of offshore hygiene and welfare units - are now being rolled out at Triton Knoll as part of its ongoing contract for welfare facilities during construction to deliver same hygiene facilities and standards to offshore workforces as onshore.

Pegasus Welfare Solutions Ltd managing director Dan Greeves said: “Sometimes we think of innovation as the latest cutting-edge engineering coming out of the lab. But that’s not always the innovation we need to solve immediate issues.

“Sometimes what is needed is to develop something simple and functional hat can really solve the immediate problem.”

“The award of this contract comes off the back of a great working relationship between Triton Knoll and PWS.

“As the new normal requires projects to allow for items such as those provided by Pegasus the business has adapted to meet the demand. This award signifies PWS’ ability to diversify and help cater for the ever-changing environment we are all working in.”

PWS won its previous contract to supply its multi-units to both Triton Knoll substations in April.  PWS’ modular systems feature lightweight frames made from marine-grade aluminium can be used as toilets, showers, eye wash, and first aid lifted on to ofhsore substations, turbines and platforms. Installing PWS’ station needs no additional infrastructure. Each unit is within its own certified offshore lifting frame and simply needs an industry standard 110v supply.

A spokesman for the Triton Knoll project said: “We are always pleased to work with and support businesses like Pegasus, which are looking to innovate within the offshore sector, where the UK is a global leader. With its wealth of experience and innovation, our support sector has a great opportunity to export its  skills into new markets around the world."

Located 32 km off the coast of Lincolnshire in the east of England,
Triton Knoll is owned by innogy (59%), J-Power (25%), and Kansai Electric Power (16%) with innogy managing the construction as well as long-term operation and maintenance works, on behalf of its project partners. It is expected to produce first power in 2021. Once fully operational, it will be capable of generating enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of over 800,000 typical UK households.
