According to a Notice to Mariners (NtM,) three wind turbine blades and a blade clamping tool have fallen overboard a vessel serving the Ormonde offshore wind farm. Project owners Vattenfall confirmed that a clean-up operation is under way, as well as an investigation into how it happened.

The jack up vessel
MPI Adventure arrived at the site earlier this month to carry out the general maintenance programme at the three turbines (B01, B06 and C03).

The vessel is now jacked up alongside Ormonde B01. Three turbine blades each measuring  61m and weighing 126 tonnes are in the water along with a blade clamping tool weighing 3000-3100kg. The items are adjacent to vessel in proximity to WTG B01. Debris has fractured off from one blade and potential to reach shore. This include glass fibre fragment.

The
Ormonde project is located in the Irish Sea, around 10km from the coast at Barrow-in-Furness in the North-West of the UK. It is owned by Vattenfall (51%) and AMF Pensionsförsäkring AB (49%).It was put into operation in 2011 with a capacity of 150 MW. It features 30 turbines, each with a 5 MW capacity. It is serviced from a base situated on the dockside in Barrow Harbour.
