Van Oord deploys MPI Resolution to Italian wind farm

Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel MPI Resolution has set sail to Italy to install the monopiles, secondary steel and the wind turbines generators for the Taranto offshore wind farm.

The mobilisation was prepared in the last two weeks in the Rotterdam area, taking a variety of equipment on board including a Menck hammer, sea fastening, upend tool and lifting equipment.

During the pile driving activities, Van Oord will deploys its FaunaGuard system. This in-house-developed acoustic device is designed to safely and temporarily deter dolphins by using special underwater acoustics.

Renexia acquired the 30 MW Taranto offshore wind project from Luxembourg based Belex Holding in mid-2018. The project is expected to be commissioned by end of the year. It is anticipated that it will produce 58,200 MWh per year, enough to power 21,000 homes. It is located near the Port of Taranto, in the region of Puglia, in the south-east of Italy. The project's turbines will be provided by Ming Yang Smart Energy.
