Van Oord finishes EA1 foundations

Van Oord has completed jacket foundation installation for ScottishPower Renewables'
East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm. This marks completion of Van Oord's work for the UK project.

Van Oord transported and installed all 102 foundations. The majority of the work took place at a depth of more than 40m in the North Sea. Van Oord developed a pile-driving template. The team used this template to precisely drive the anchoring piles for each three-legged jacket foundation into the seabed. Subsequently, the gigantic wind turbine foundations could be installed in the piles.

ScottishPower Renewables outsourced the manufacture of the jacket foundations and anchoring piles to suppliers in the United Kingdom, Spain and the Middle East. Van Oord was involved in the logistics and transported some of the foundations to BOW Terminal Vlissingen, the storage and transhipment port for the wind turbine foundations.

DEME Group's jack-up installation vessel
SEA INSTALLER is currently on site at East Anglia ONE, installing turbines. The vessel arrived on site last month and will install a total of 102 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines. The 741 MW project is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2020. A new base is currently under construction in Lowestoft, and will support operations and maintenance of the project. The £2.5bn wind farm is the first of four projects ScottishPower Renewables is developing in the East Anglia region to begin construction.

This includes the
East Anglia THREE project, which is to to be situated approximately 69km from the coast of Lowestoft in Suffolk. The project is anticipated to have a capacity in the region of 1,400 MW.

ScottishPower Renewwables is also in the process of planning consultations on two other offshore wind farms in the East Anglia zone. If consents are granted, it is anticipated that
East Anglia TWO will commence construction in 2024 and East Anglia ONE North will commence construction in 2025.
