Vattenfall will have wait another month to learn the fate of its Vesterhav Nord & Syd offshore wind farms, as the Danish Energy Agency continues its review of the Environmental Impact Report (EIA).

Vattenfall secured permits for the two Danish wind areas in 2016, at 47.5 øre/kWh (€63.8/MWh). However, due to appeals against the project, the Danish Energy Board revoked permits relating to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the
Syd site in December 2018 and requested a supplemental EIA on the specific project design. Due to the similarities between the two sites, Vattenfall requested that the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) also review the EIA process for the Vesterhav Nord project.

The supplementary EIA report and draft decisions were under consultation from 6th May until 30th June 2020. The DEA originally hoped to come to a conclusion in September/October but is still processing the consultation responses. According to the DEA, a final decision is now expected by the end of November.

Vesterhav Nord will have a capacity of 180 MW and will consist of 21 SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, each with a rated power of 8.4 MW. Vesterhav Syd will have a capacity of 170 MW and will consist of 20 turbines. Combined, the projects will supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 350,000 Danish households.

Due to the delays in consenting, Vattenfall has decided to re-tender for main supply and installation contracts, with commissioning now expected 2023/2024.
