Vattenfall selects Dewesoft for HKZ tower monitoring

Vattenfall has selected Slovenia-based data acquisition manufacturer Dewesoft to provide the tower monitoring solution at the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm.

The installation will be 18-36 km off the coast of the Netherlands, near the Hague and Zandvoort. With a total capacity of 1.5 GW, via 140 turbines, it is expected to be the largest offshore wind farm once installed.

Dewesoft’s monitoring system will involve sensors along the height of the towers. These will provide acceleration, inclination, and velocity measurements. The Dewesoft monitoring solution features an integrated 3-axial accelerometer and data acquisition device. This, the company explains, offers “monitoring and easy on-site installation of the devices due to the EtherCAT daisy chain option and the standardized interface, RJ45.”

Vattenfall will plan its maintenance activities based on the data collected, which will be stored in a database and sent to Vattenfall’s control room for interpretation and analysis.
