Investors Wind Power Plant Co. Ltd, joined the National Power Transmission Corporation and the Centre for Southern Electricity System to put into operation
Phase 2 of the Wind Power Plant in Bac Lieu
.
A formal commissioning was was held over the Christmas period and has seen the installation of 52 turbines, each with a rated capacity of 1.6MW, which gives the project a total installed capacity of 83.2 MW. The 16MW
Phase One project
, which consisted of
ten GE turbines
, was the countries first roll-out of offshore wind.
The total combined power generation capacity of the
Bac Lieu projects
is 99.2 MW and stands as an investment of over 5.2 billion Dong (approx. €200k) in offshore renewables for Vietnam.
In March this year, developers of the
Phase Three of the Bac Lieu project
were awarded a grant by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to conduct a feasibility study to assess the potential development of a further 300MW off the Vietnam coast.
By the end of 2015, the output power in commercial operation of the wind power plant in Bac Lieu has contributed 86 million KWh to the national grid.
