Vineyard surveys set to happen

Vineyard WindThe notice to mariners details the scope of the surveys. The R/V Theory vessel is the vessel of choice, and was scheduled to start the surveys sometime around the 26th. The surveys are due to take place over 30-45 days from the start date.

The crew will be attaining sediment samples and underwater video imagery for mapping and assessing benthic habitats in Nantucket Sound, along proposed export cable corridors and in the Vineyard Wind Lease Area.

Vineyard Wind say it is committed to communicating and working with the local fishermen in the region during all stages of development of the proposed offshore wind farm. Information gathered will be used to further design the wind farm and the location for the cable route from the wind farm to shore.

Last week Vineyard Wind was announced as the winning bidder of the Massachsetts 83C Request for Proposals (RFP) by the Distribution Companies and Department of Energy Resources. The winning Vineyard Wind Bid 2 is for the construction of a 800MW wind farm 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard within a 160,000 acre (647km2) lease area.
