Waves Group supporting Hollandse Kust Zuid construction

Waves Group has been awarded a Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) contract for the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm. The project consists of four sites with a total generating capacity of 1.5 GW.

Waves Group will be providing MWS services for all phases of the project, including the installation of foundations, turbines, and array cables. It has already supported installation of the Alpha export cables and transformer station jacket as part of TenneT's scope of work, and will be working on the Beta cables and transformer stations next year. The contract commenced in Q2 2020 and will continue through the WTG installation phase to Q2 2023.

The four wind farms are located between 18-36 km off the Dutch west coast within the North Sea and will feature 140 wind turbine generators, which will be connected to two 700 MW offshore substations, operated by Dutch TSO Tennet – HKZ Alpha and HKZ Beta. Vattenfall secured the rights to the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1&2 and Hollandse Kust Zuid 3&4 offshore wind farms with zero subsidy bids in March 2018 and July 2019.

The projects will have a combined capacity of 1.5 GW, and will feature 140 SG 11.0-200 DD turbines. Offshore construction is scheduled to start in 2021, with commissioning in 2023. The projects is expected provide one third of the total installed offshore wind capacity in the Netherlands.

All operation and maintenance activities for the wind farm will be carried out from Vattenfall’s new service facility in the port of IJmuiden and in accordance with government regulations and conditions, the sea space between the turbines will be open for passage and co-use.
