WIKING Helikopter Service scores contract extension with Ørsted

WIKING Helikopter Service GmbH has signed a new multiyear contract with Ørsted to extend Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

WIKING will cover the Borkum Riffgrund 1, Borkum Riffgrund 2, and the Gode Wind 1&2 operational projects as well as the Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3 projects when installed.

Its flight and medical crew are on 24/7 standby, coordinated by its ORS rescue control center. This service will be provided 365 days per year from its bases Wilhelmshaven and Emden LEONARDO helicopters / AW139.

The use of helicopters in the offshore wind industry is on the rise. Projects are being developed further from shore, which increase thes travel time for vessels and see conditions at the site reduce working time and accessibility to the site. Helicopters are being deployed as a fast-response solution, transferring both technicians and equipment as well as emergency response.

Earlier this week, the G+ Global Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organisation and HeliOffshore unveiled new recommended practice for safe helicopter operations.
