Windcat has placed an order for another Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) dedicated to offshore personnel transfer, completing its six-ship ‘Elevation Series’ of future-proof CSOVs. This series is designed to provide in-field technical and maintenance support to offshore wind farms for up to 30 days at a time.

Damen will construct the sixth CSOV at Ha Long Shipyard in Vietnam, where the first five vessels are currently in various stages of production. The first CSOV is set for delivery early next year.

“Working together with Windcat and CMB.TECH over the last few years shows the power of collaboration,” said Joost van der Weiden, Damen’s Sales Manager Benelux. “Developing the hydrogen component of this vessel with CMB.TECH – turning new technology into proven technology – is groundbreaking for the industry. Windcat's order of this sixth vessel underscores their clear vision and commitment.”

The ‘Elevation Series’ CSOVs result from the close cooperation between Windcat, CMB.TECH, and Damen, combining expertise in offshore crew transfer services, future-proof fleet ownership, and shipbuilding.

Special attention has been given to the internal design of all six vessels in the ‘Elevation Series’. Windcat Managing Director Willem Van Der Wel highlighted the innovative, efficient, and high-performing nature of the vessels. “Together with Damen, we have focused on optimizing the onboard workflow for offshore wind farm technicians, ensuring both operational efficiency and safety,” said Van Der Wel. “The interior design mirrors a premium hotel to provide technicians with a comfortable living space while at work.”

The final design features an 87-metre-long vessel accommodating 120 people on board. With input from CMB.TECH and insights from Windcat’s hydrogen-powered Crew Transfer Vessel, the CSOV will be equipped with dual fuel hydrogen technology. This will significantly reduce CO2 emissions and position Windcat at the forefront of sustainable fuel usage.
