Windhoist scores Moray East work

Windhoist has secured a contract award to provide local technicians to assist with pre-assembly works for the Moray East offshore wind farm off the Scottish coast. A total of 20 locally based technicians have been recruited for the project which commences this month and is expected to reach completion in September 2021.

“We are delighted with the awards we have achieved within our first year of gaining approved supplier status with MHI Vestas, we also have the benefit of each contract award relating to different areas of activity: Offshore Installation, Offshore O&M, and now Offshore Pre-Assembly. Our aim has been to develop a solid foundation from which Windhoist can provide further support to MHI Vestas in the upcoming period ” commented Willie Dawson, Windhoist Offshore Director.

Located 22 km off the coast of Scotland in the Moray Firth, Moray East, is a 950 MW offshore wind farm that covers an area of 520 square km in water depths ranging from 37 to 57 metres. Construction work for commenced on the 18th May 2019. The project is due to start generating power in 2021, with full operations in 2022. It will feature 100 MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines and three offshore substations.

The project is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd, a consortium of EDP Renewables (EDPR), Diamond Generating Europe (DGE) and Engie. Consent for construction of the wind farm was granted in 2016 and the project won a contract for difference in 2017, at £57.50 per MWh.
